eTalk Festival Party 2008

Wow, it's been a long time since my last entry. So much of Xanga seems different, it took me a couple minutes just to figure out how to post a new entry!

Friday night I went to the eTalk party for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). P Diddy performed but I got there too late so I missed it. However, there was still open bar, free food, and ... someone very special  You'll see!

Courtyard of the CTV building.. we waited 20 minutes at the bar here before realizing there were many more, less crowded bars upstairs. This party spanned three floors (or was it four? I don't quite remember... and yes, I did take advantage of the open bar )

Cheers!

These were the cutest little grilled panini sandwiches. Three kinds of grilled cheese, including brie & cranberry, goat cheese & arugula, and ham & swiss. I only had the ham & swiss, and it was very salty and flavourful. I wish I was able to try them all, but I was too full at this point. We made stops to all the finger food stations, and this was one of the last. There was a pasta station, a mashed potato station (three kinds! all yummy), meat (smoked duck, and chicken) station, chow mein station, and some others. Oh! There was a Coney Island Fries station... potato wedges with cheese curds (sans chilli sauce, for me).. yum!

Yes, this is THE Lindsay Lohan! I love her!!  Ironic that even though I've been to LA three times last year, I never saw her... but now, I finally get to see her in my very own city!! While this photo doesn't show it, she smiled a lot and texted often on her phone. She was wearing her requisite leggings. Lindsay was here supporting her gal pal Samantha Ronson. Cute

What do you think? Not quite red carpet material... but it was fun pretending! Of course, my talented photographer had to cut off the best part of my outfit.. the mile-high Gucci stilettos. Sigh.

A week in paradise

aa

I came back from a sunny vacation in the Caribbean a few days ago. We went on a one week cruise and visited St Maarten, St Thomas, and the Bahamas. The beaches there are beautiful! Sand is smooth and fine, and the waters are very clear, especially in St Thomas. Not like the rocky, murky coloured beaches here!

Personally, I thought the best part of the vacation was all the delicious food at my disposal. I think I had like five meals a day, minimum.

bb

Extremely fresh and delicious lobster tails.. I had six of them!

In retrospect I wish I took more photos.. I was too busy enjoying myself to take that many. I guess I will have to borrow some from other people.. good thing there were a lot of cameras around!

Girl dates guy. Guy cheats on girl. Girl dumps him and sells his stuff on ebay.

HA! So this poor girl is selling her ex’s stuff on ebay. Some items include his jeans, his fake designer sunglasses, a box of cereal, and an unopened condom. She peppers the auctions with personal photos and delightful commentary, such as:

Alrighty...these glasses say "DG" on the side. I am NOT claiming they are D&G glasses. Mainly because as far as I know he purchased these himself, and usually only people with jobs can afford name brand accessories.

They are really small for men's jeans! I guess that's because being homeless and jobless leaves one SKINNY and MALNOURISHED! Ouch!

Her username is “ihateuloser”. Worth checking out.. Best auction descriptions, ever. She’s hilarious!

Personally, I probably would not sell my ex’s stuff on ebay (and post personal photos and stories) with such vigor, but then again, I’ve never been cheated on (knock on wood). So who knows. Although I would probably sell things that I received from an ex. Gone are the days where you’d put souvenirs in a shoebox and throw them in the fireplace. With the advent of ebay and Craigslist, you can now recoup a small portion of the money you spent on these failed relationships.

I went out for dinner with some people on the weekend. We ate at an Asian restaurant with great food and very decent prices. For our table of 6 people, our total bill came to $75 including taxes. As soon as the bill hit our table, one guy threw his credit card out and said "Everyone just pay me back in cash". Okay, then. A bit odd how he doesn't even have the $15 or so in his wallet. But whatever. So we all give him $15 in cash. From 5 people, that alone makes up the entire $75. All he needed to do was pay a decent tip. He fills in the total on the credit card slip..

$82.50

turns over the bill, and leaves. Hello? That is beyond low. That is embarassing. For god's sake man.. you're 24, not 14. You can afford to leave a bit more. Cheap people are awful to eat with, since others usually have to chip in to make up for their stinginess.  Even worse when he makes the entire table look bad, even though we had all paid our fair amount including a 20% tip. If you only wanted to pay $7.50 for a meal, go to McDonald's.

Sprinkles Cupcakes

DSCN3092

Yes, they do taste as good as they look!

They seem to be very popular in the Los Angeles area. I went to their Beverly Hills location around 2:30pm on a weekday afternoon. The line extended outside the door and spilled out onto the street. They had many delicious looking flavours, and even had mini-cupcakes especially for dogs! (I'm not sure how healthy or safe that would be, though) Nearly $40 and 20 minutes later, I left with a dozen of these cute little cakes. Carrying a paper Sprinkles bag seems to hold more prestige than carrying an LV. Sales associates jokingly pretended to steal my bag, and a homeless person even asked me to spare a cupcake instead of change!
